View Fine Art Site

May 2010
Brian Drake Design Illustration, an Arizona graphic design firm, has finished the majority of work on the 11 month Maverick Aviation project. In that time the studio created from ground up in house, an enormous shopping cart system, a dedicated user database system, an online forum, a 70+ category user supported classified advertising program, with back end revenue model, a for hire business directory, site wide tower advertising and a dedicated browser based admin section for managing virtually every aspect of the sites content. Brian Drake Design Illustration even managed to integrate Facebook into the site. Now users can have access to the their friends, their wall and their info right at mavaviation.com. The entire site is built using PHP, MySQL, Flash and DHTML. The keys have been turned over to the owners and they are now charged with the daunting task of adding inventory and taking this site live.

Brian Drake Design Illustration, an Arizona graphic design firm, has entered into a new agreement with Gapnote. We will be charged with bringing Greg Murphy's vision of a new social media interface to reality. Being developed in Both CS4 Flash and Flex, there will be intensive data binding and animation. Gapnote is a fantastic concept and we are very excited to be a part of Greg's vision.

Brian Drake has a new Marshall way CO-OP starting in January for his fine art. Spearheaded by Bentley Galleries and Craig Randich, Brian Drake will be featured with several working artists on Marshall Way in Old Town Scottsdale for the next several months. New energy and representation should prove to be an exciting catalyst for more large pieces in the coming year.

Brian Drake has a new Marshall Way showing for his fine art. Selected by the City of Scottsdale to represent modernism on the Art Walk and in conjunction with Dewey Schode, Brian has two dedicated spaces to his large format work on the North side of Marshall Way, just South of 5th Avenue in Old Town Scottsdale. Thew work will be on display through January.

Brian Drake Design Illustration, a Scottsdale based graphic design studio has been rounding the corner on the long term Maverick Aviation project. This fully featured site, which consist of several revenue models has internal advertising campaigns, a fully featured multi product store front, a complete user supported aviation classifieds section with over 90 categories and 300 sub categories, a well as an aviation business directory and in final stages a Facebook style photo gallery where users can comment, leave messages and interact with other aviators or aviation enthusiasts. Brian Drake Design Illustration knows what the reader may be thinking: PHP Nuke, off the shelf back end tools or ELance fools. No Way! EVERY single tool was developed by Brian Drake and Craig Back in the studio in Scottsdale. Thats just how we do it. Is t better... we think so. Does it work. Every time, all the time. As the project nears completion for early 2010 it will enter beta testing. In the mean time, you can view screen shots of the progress here. And as usual, half the battle of this site, is getting it to work in our elaborate visual code.

Brian Drake Design Illustration, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic design studio is busy in the creation of a local aviation company's portal for general aviation pilots. A robust SQL driven site, the new portal will also feature the same award winning design Brian Drake has been doing for years, as well as our proprietary SEO service. With an aggressive four month plan to launch, it looks like the team (all three of us) will be living in the office all summer.

Brian Drake Design Illustration, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic design firm, just finished the on line catalog site for Scottsdale Trading Post. The site features a robust PHP/Flash and MySQL solution for displaying the stores Native American antiquities. As well, Brian Drake created a full service admin side, allowing the site owner total access and control over all content. The daunting task of adding 10K photographs and inventory items is underway. In the mean time we have provided screenshots of the final result. As always, all photography, programming and design as well as hosting was done under the BDDI roof-

Sinar Man

Brian Drake Design Illustration, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic design firm, has added 4x5 large format photography to the studio. For years, Brian has used 35/120MM film and digital. When looking for the ultimate in image size and drum scan resolution, large format was the natural choice. This camera (Sinar P) also converts to 8x10 for even bigger negs and contact printing. It is just another way the studio can control projects, in house, from beginning to end.

Brian Drake, a Scottsdale Arizona artist and designer spent the summer working on a deal with Pacific stock and Prinscapes.com to offer his art to the commercial design, retail, hospitality and stock art community. Greek Island Photo Book
September 2008
Brian Drake Design Illustration, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic design firm is deep in a new publishing project. The new book is a four color photo essay of the Greek islands, Mykonos and Santorini, Brian Drake will be handling the design and layout for publishing company Orange Cup Media. The book will be 9x12 hard bound and start with a run of 10k units. This book project is near the end and will be on press the first week of October.

Novotel Beijing Final
June 2008
Brian Drake, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic designer and illustrator has completed the monumental task of all original art creation for the Novotel Beijing hotel. Under the direction of Olivier and Nathalie Severin, of Bent Severin Design, Brian Drake created over 100 images (of which 44 or so were chosen) in every medium imaginable. From all acrylic large format painting for the lobby, to collage images for the suites, to illustrations for the restaurant, to 3D botanical objects for the corridors, to small format acrylic images for the bar, to photographic light manipulation, Brian touched on his entire skill set as an artist. "...This project was 13 months in the making and when it finally came together, I had about 70 days to create and deliver every image... I don't think I have ever been so challenged to create such a diverse array of work in such a short time frame. Nathalie and Olivier were terrific, and with out them, I would have never had this opportunity." Arthur Milano was charged with completing the DVD of the digital files, with full catalog and substrate guide. Novotel Beijing
May 2008
Brian Drake, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic designer and illustrator, is still deep in the art creation for the hotel Novotel in Beijing, China. Working closely with Olivier Severin of Bent Severin Design, Brian has created 30+ original pieces for the project and completion is finally in sight. Advance previews of the art at the recent Hotel & Design Expo in Las Vegas were met with great reviews and excitement by several groups in the art and hotel industry. Once the project is completed, Brian Drake will travel to China for installation and the final opening of the hotel to the public. Novotel Beijing
March/April 2008
Brian Drake has been deep in the creation of a large scale art program for the Accor hotel brand, Novotel, in Beijing China. Brian Drake has been working in various mediums, both digital and traditional. The corridor art is in 3D, as well, Brian Drake is using abstract light manipulation photography for the bar/restaurant areas while staying in traditional acrylics for the guest and suite room programs. The Lobby also features two large scale original acrylic paintings. This project is all consuming and is even being documented in 1080iHD time-lapse. sample image gallery

January 2008
Brian Drake Design Illustration, entered into an agreement to provide media and audio services to Pearson and Prentice Hall as part of the team developing global educational content. Brian Drake will provide audio and interactive service in support of the e-learning based materials for various grade levels.

Say Anything AIGA

Brian Drake Design Illustration, along with Sue Urban, ASID, from Studio4Design hosted the final event for the 2007 Say Anything series, "Women in Design". A diverse array of creative professionals engaged in a sobering and vested discussion, addressing gender distinctions in the design industry.

Print Magazine Design Annual
October 2007
Brian Drake Design Illustration takes 3 of 1,026 national spotlights in Print Magazine. Brian Drake is proud to have been honored with three featured examples in the 2007 PRINT Regional Design Annual. The publication, which highlights best-in-class graphic design solutions across the United States, accepted just over 22,000 entries, putting the acceptance rate at around 4.6%. Three of our recent works were chosen to represent the south western region. Its great to be recognized by peers and colleagues and we're humbled by such recognition.

Brian Drake Design Illustration has been working all summer on a new design direction. After partnering with Kurt Blaydorn of Rockthreads, Brian Drake Design Illustration is now releasing their own line of licensed designer t's. The first samples have just arrived, in time for the Magic Show in Las Vegas. (big apparel event) By mid September, the Brian Drake line of signature apparel will be 6 independent designs, featured across several iterations of t's, and hoodies. The signature line carried in the boutiques will be in both mens and woman's cuts. The additional 10 Year t, is a limited shirt, done to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Brian Drake Design Illustration. It features a great rip of a Recife ding, is over illustrated and features the large signature. To get a 10 year shirt, call the studio at 480 874 3210 or come by. Since there is only 60 of these shirts left, we most likely will not offer them at our online store.

Be Elite, is a specialized academy for hair care professionals and mature students, looking to further enhance their techniques and thinking in the hair care industry. AIGA Say Anything #1

Scottsdale Arizona graphic design group, Brian Drake Design Illustration, now host the monthly AIGA event, "Say Anything". Brian Drake's first event, titled "Save Graphic Design" was held on August 13th at 6:00pm. The studio had a good turn out and a lively discussion, inspired by Corey Skaaren's riveting speech on how designers are to blame for the woes of the industry. (or at least some of them) All are welcome to the next even, where Brian Drake will present his ideas on client relationship management, in a presentation titled, "How To Date Your Clients and Score". Trading Spaces

Brian Drake creates a large trade show booth and complete illustration and graphics package, for MIS Group's July show in Dallas. Using 3D and hand illustration we created several large stationary panels that came together to make one contiguous graphic presentation. The booth expanded on the Saturn Rocket program theme developed for use in all MIS Group communication efforts and web materials for 2007.

Nine More Notches

Brian Drake Design Illustration picked up nine (9) awards at the AIGA Prisma Awards, an industry ceremony on the evening of Saturday (06/02/07). While winning several merit and bronze awards, we were awarded three prestigious silvers and two nominations for the inspired "people's choice" awards for category excellence. It goes without saying that we are humbled concerning the recognition of the work we've done, not only for ourselves but for the clients who ultimately get (and truly deserve!) this exposure.

March and April were busy months at the studio. Brian Drake Design Illustration has been busy creating new acrylic works, two MIS newsletters, a new web interface program for MIS, two fully illustrated 18x24 direct mail pieces and managing several smaller web projects. We have also been very busy mixing up our time with php and back end interface creation. Many of our web clients are already aware of our powerful, integrated admin control system for their content on their websites. Its also great for search engines and yes... we built it here. Art Institute Presentation

Brian Drake, a Scottsdale Arizona graphic design firm, goes on a 2 hour rant about design, ethics, production, politics and other topics on a rainy afternoon in February. Presented for Tamara Pavlock's Print Production class from the Art Institute and joined by Arthur Milano and production designer Sara Kobusch, the group traversed tough subjects and answered questions from the students. One highlight was the sharing of actual stories from a current client of Brian Drake Design Illustration, Craig McClure.
